4) A SPORTS BRA

Not wearing a supportive bra when exercising can lead to irreversible sagging. "It can stretch the ligaments which support the breasts," explains Selaine Messem of LessBounce, a specialist sports-bra mail order company. "Many women suffer from breast pain when exercising, which can be helped by a good-fitting sports bra."

Which one and why
Opt for a sports bra which fits comfortably, has wide enough straps and doesn't ride up at the back. Fabrics like Coolmax or Supplex are better than cotton, as they draw sweat away from your skin. For smaller-breasted women, a compression bra is best, which presses breasts against the chest wall. For bigger busts, an encapsulated bra, that supports each breast separately, is more appropriate. Messem recommends the Sportjock ActionSport bra, £24.99 (below), a double-layer 'crop top' style bra, or the cross-back rear-fastening Shock Absorber B999, £25.99, for A-B cups; the fully-adjustable Champion ActionShape and Full Support bras, both £29.99, for C-D cups, and the underwired Panache Hi Impact, £29.99, or double-layered, front-fastening Enell sports bra, £37.99, for larger busts.
